  • Firefly: The Case for a Holistic Understanding of the Global Structure and Dynamics of the Sun and the Heliosphere
This white paper is on the HMCS Firefly mission concept study. Firefly focuses on the global structure and dynamics of the Sun's interior, the generation of solar magnetic fields, the deciphering of the solar cycle, the conditions leading to the explosive activity, and the structure and dynamics of the corona as it drives the heliosphere.

  • Seismic Monitoring of the Sun's Far Hemisphere: A Crucial Component in Future Space Weather Forecasting
We present a coherent vision for the role of helioseismic monitoring of magnetic activity in the Sun's far hemisphere that will contribute to improving space weather forecasting as well as fundamental research. These require reliable, continuous synoptic monitoring of the far hemisphere as an integral component of our science and technology

  • GTC optical spectroscopy reveals outflow-related features in Swift J1727.8-1613
    Swift J1727.8-1613 (originally GRB 230824A: GCN #34536, #34537) has been recently classified as a new low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) undergoing a bright X-ray outburst (ATel #16205, #16206, #16207,#16210, #16215).

  • Confirmation of an He I evaporating atmosphere around the 650-Myr-old sub-Neptune HD 235088 b (TOI-1430 b) with CARMENES
HD 235088 (TOI-1430) is a young star known to host a sub-Neptune-sized planet candidate. We validated the planetary nature of HD 235088 b with multiband photometry, refined its planetary parameters, and obtained a new age estimate of the host star, placing it at 600-800 Myr. Previous spectroscopic observations of a single transit detected an excess

  • Constraints on the Abundance of Primordial Black Holes from X-Ray Quasar Microlensing Observations: Substellar to Planetary Mass Range
We use X-ray observations of quasar microlensing (sensitive to smaller compact objects than in the optical) to study the possible presence of a population of low mass black holes (BHs; from ~10 -3 M ⊙ to 10 -1 M ⊙) in lens galaxies. We compare these observations with microlensing magnification simulations of a mixed population of stars and BHs plus

  • GTC/CanariCam Mid-IR Polarimetry of Magnetic Fields in Star-Forming Region W51 IRS2
We present 0.4 arcsec-resolution mid-IR imaging polarimetry, obtained with CanariCam at GTC, of the central 0.11 pc x 0.28 pc (4.2 arcsec x 10.8 arcsec) region of W51 IRS2. The observed mid-IR polarization across this region is typically several percent, with values as high as 12%. The polarization arises from ensembles of non-spherical silicate
