  • The observation of intrinsically different emergences for large and small active regions
The analysis of high-resolution H-alpha and white-light observations on the emergence of 73 active regions shows an intrinsically different behavior for both the large and small ones. The small active regions (magnetic flux of approximately 5 x 10 to the 21st Mx) display circular structures of supergranular size with pores only at the borders

  • Near-infrared scans of planetary nebulae
In the present results from a program of near-IR scanning of planetary nebulae, the observed flux is in most cases dominated by free-free emission. In three of the nebulae, dust excess continua at K are comparable to free-free emission, although there appear to be no significant changes in source size between the J and K bands. Profiles in IC 418

  • Infrared observations of H II regions - S128 and G134.2+0.8 (GL 333)
Observations of S128 and G134.2+0.8, two active star forming H II regions, are reported. The exciting stars in both are probably detected and identified. In addition an apparently cold and luminous infrared source is located about 1 arcmin north of S128 which is probably a young member of the OB association recently formed there.

  • New information about solar rotation
It is pointed out that the phenomenon of solar rotation is known since the introduction of the telescope into astronomy by Galilei in 1610. Regular measurements concerning the positions of sunspots were conducted with the aid of photographic plates at the Royal Greenwich Observatory during the time from 1874 to 1976. The obtained data provide an

  • Do all bright elliptical galaxies have active nuclei?
The evidence is noted that (1) a flux density limited complete sample of X-ray emitting BL Lac type sources is now available from Schwartz and Ku (1983), that (2) the radio through X-ray emission of BL Lac type sources is most easily interpreted as nonthermal emission from a relativistically boosted jet pointed close to the line of sight and that
